Blood type reveal - is that a thing?

No, but why can't it be? I mean, what do you do when you’re 26 and single but all your friends are having babies and posting their cute gender reveal photos all over the place? You decide to give blood to help the national blood shortage crisis and at the same make your dream of knowing your blood type come true, duh. Oh, and you get to do a blood type reveal photo shoot! Take THAT, pregnant friends.

Blood is desperately needed!

According to the American Red Cross, we are experiencing the worst shortage in over a decade. All blood types are needed but the most needed are O+ (the blood type of yours truly and the most common) as well as O-, the most commonly used in emergency rooms.

Cute first date idea - donate blood together!

My sister, the cute, single 26-year-old from above, (message me if you’re a good guy and would like her number *wink*) wanted to donate blood for a couple of reasons. She has a friend with a health condition that requires him to receive regular blood transfusions. His brother has the same condition but was recently turned away from getting a transfusion because they didn’t have enough blood available. It was this need that prompted my sister to finally make the appointment to donate blood, something that had been on her mind (and heart - see what I did there?) for a while. She was also curious as to her own blood type and knew she could find out easily by donating blood. And lastly, as an avid fan of The Office, she wanted to experience the feeling of being a human juice box herself.

My sister: She's cute, single, likes The Office and helping others. Bonus: has an awesome photographer sister.

Get to the reveal already!

I jokingly asked her if she wanted to do a blood type reveal photo shoot but she thought it was a fun idea that we could use to bring attention to the blood shortage crisis. We had a lot of fun taking these photos and we hope they bring you a smile and encourage you to consider donating blood yourself!

It's AB negative!

A blood type that is just as special as she is. I've put together a few fun facts about AB- blood as well as O+, my blood type.

AB negative

  • More likely to develop cognitive issues
  • Negative blood types are less common
  • AB- is the universal plasma donor
  • AB- is the rarest of all blood types

O positive

  • O blood types are less susceptible to malaria
  • Least likely to suffer cardio vascular issues
  • The majority of Latinos are O+ (I'm 1/4 Latina!)
  • Women with O blood types are more likely to suffer fertility issues (this checks out in my case!)

What's your blood type?

Do you know? Maybe you have something else to add or just want to say hey. Either way, I'd love to hear from you!

What's next?

Go give blood! Do it because it's a good thing to do but if you need additional encouragement, I’m currently offering half off of the session fee of any session for anyone who gives blood in the month of March 2022. If you’re reading this later, no worries! I will continue to honor a 10% discount off the session fee for anyone who gives blood within 1 week of booking a session. Simply send me a screenshot or photo of your donation receipt showing the date you donated. Feel free to redact any personal information you’d rather not share before sending me the photo. Use the form above to send me a message and let me know you're interested in the blood donation discount and booking a session and I'll get back to you to make it happen!

See all the photos from our fun little session!

We had a lot of fun finding this parking deck in northeast Atlanta - where my sister lives and I visit often - and laughing together while we took some silly photos. I also did a few updated headshots for her in addition to the reveal photos because when your sister is a photographer, there is no reason not to have updated photos! Laugh with us as you browse the photos below.
