A Baseball-Themed Cake Smash in Chattanooga
This Chattanooga cake smash session is probably the most favorite one I've done as a cake smash photographer. I love it when moms challenge me with a good theme or idea for their child's first birthday cake smash session. When this mom and I first spoke we discussed doing the cake smash in studio (where it is much easier to clean up) but I asked her if she would be interested in doing it on a baseball field if I could find one that would accommodate us. She agreed and thankfully so did the Jack Mattox Ball Park in Ringgold, GA. For a small fee we were able to reserve a field one evening and it provided the perfect backdrop for this baseball-themed cake smash session for a little rookie!
Bats, blocks, and baseballs.
I went around to several local antique stores (Chattanooga has plenty of them!) to find all the old baseballs to use as props. I also found an old bat and glove to complete the look! I already had a couple of large ABC blocks and used the A side since my little rookie's name starts with A. His mom even brought a miniature bat with his name engraved on it. The old baseballs and simple props and decorations looked perfect out on the field and little A loved playing with everything. He even managed to get one of the balls into the cake!
Fun Baseball Fact
I'm not one to follow baseball myself (sorry to all my baseball-loving moms) but when I was a teenager my next-door neighbor was Gary Sheffield for the years he played for the Atlanta Braves. I'll be honest, I had no idea who he was before he moved in. But I will say he was a nice neighbor, always waved hello, and we even got to see Barry Bonds on one occasion when he was visiting. So I guess that's pretty cool!
