Pumpkin Themed Newborn Photoshoot

Welcome, October Baby!

What better theme is there for an October baby’s newborn photoshoot than pumpkins? Trick question — there isn’t one. At least that’s what this baby’s mama and I thought anyway. Regardless of everyone’s feelings toward pumpkins and their spices, I think we can all agree on how precious this sweet baby girl looks surrounded by them!

A Pumpkin Surprise

A few weeks before her due date, the mama (who also happens to be my sister) sent me a photo from a pumpkin themed newborn session saying how much she loved this idea. We were already planning an in-home lifestyle newborn session but being the thoughtful sister/aunt/photographer that I am, I put together a similar setup as a little surprise for her as part of her family’s newborn session. So check back soon for the photos from that session!

As for the props, I sourced real heirloom pumpkins from my favorite grocery store, Publix, antique lace doilies, faux greenery and flowers, as well as a circular jute rug that I found at TJ Maxx. With a blank, neutral wall and natural wood floor of my sister's house as a backdrop, these items worked beautifully together to create a lovely fall scene for the photoshoot.

My sister was thrilled with the final look and couldn’t have been happier to have such cute, pumpkin themed photos of her newborn. One of the reasons she was so excited to have an October baby is because my sister was also born in October. In fact, my sister happened to be born on National Pumpkin Day! (It was also on a Tuesday and I got to skip school that day. By far my favorite day of second grade.) My sister always says that autumn is the best season of them all, and with the crisp weather, colorful trees, and cozy outfits, who can blame her?
